Not the film with Diane Keaton. No.
This is It’s Complicated: a multi-platform project about “feminist writers’ relationships to the misogynist art we love.” I’m a fan. It’s smart, deep, sharp-witted, very complicated, and endlessly relevant. If I were a cultural institution, I would want a project like this on my site. I’d want this level of discussion about culture, even if it goes far afield from my current programming.
To be clear: It’s Complicated is independent. That’s my point. It shouldn’t have to be. This kind of project—not exactly art, not exactly scholarship—is traditionally situated outside the boundaries of a cultural institution. But we’re not living in a traditional moment, now, are we? Hmm? (There will never be emoticons on this blog; but if I were to use one here, it would be a slightly agitated banana arching an eyebrow.)
